ProSites vs a custom dental website:
which fits your practice?

Choose ProSites if you want a dental website platform with pre-written content, an editor you run yourself and marketing plans for an ongoing fee. Choose a custom dental website if you want a design built for your practice, a one-time build price and a website your practice owns.

ProSites’ own license agreement says the website’s graphics and code belong to ProSites. That is the biggest difference to weigh.

The short answer

Decide what you want to own.

ProSites fits a practice that wants a ready dental platform, pre-written content and marketing in one ongoing relationship. A custom website fits a practice that wants a design made for it, a one-time build price and a site it keeps. Both can work. The real difference is what you pay for over time, and what stays with you if you leave.

This is WTM’s perspective as a custom website studio. WTM Studio is not affiliated with ProSites, Inc. ProSites facts are quoted or closely paraphrased from ProSites’ own public pages, listed under Sources.

What does ProSites include?

ProSites builds websites for dental practices. It says it has been in the dental industry since 2003 and has served 7,500+ practices. Its website design packages come in four levels: Basic, Semi-Custom, Custom and Custom Pro. Basic offers 100+ design choices. Custom adds a design consultation, an initial mockup and two rounds of revisions. Custom Pro adds a design discovery call and a 100% custom design mockup.

Every ProSites website includes 150+ pages of pre-written dental content, an easy-to-use editor, contact and appointment request forms, unlimited customer support and 10 email accounts. Its pricing page also lists four marketing plans: Get Started, Competitive Edge, Market Leader and Market Owner. Every plan includes a website, SEO and social media. Higher plans add more business listings, backlinks and custom content. Market Owner adds Google Search Ads.

That is a complete, ready system. For many practices, that is the point.

Who owns a ProSites website?

ProSites does, under its published terms. Its end user license agreement says: “The Customer's website (including all graphical content and related HTML coding provided by ProSites) is the property of ProSites and the Customer has no rights to the website beyond the terms of its subscription.”

The same agreement excludes “the client name and Customer information” from ProSites’ ownership of the design features and source code. It also says the newsletter articles ProSites provides may not be used outside your ProSites website without its written consent. Read as written, the design and code stay with ProSites if you leave. Ask ProSites in writing what you can take with you: your pages, your images, your articles and your domain.

With WTM, you own everything we build. With any provider, confirm the accounts, integrations and handoff in the agreement.

What happens to your domain?

ProSites’ FAQ says its monthly fee includes annual domain renewal, so your domain name will never expire. It also says ProSites can point an existing domain to a new ProSites website. We did not find a public statement of whose name the domain is registered in, or how a transfer works when you cancel.

Your domain is your practice’s address online. Whoever builds the site, ask to see the registration record and make sure the practice is the registered owner. Ask how, and how quickly, the domain is released if you leave.

How is ProSites priced?

ProSites does not publish prices on its pricing page. When we checked on September 23, 2026, the page listed four plans with no dollar amounts. Its FAQ says prices differ depending on the level of custom design and invites practices to call for a free quote. It describes a monthly Software, Service, & Support fee that covers editor access, upgrades, support, domain renewal, hosting and email.

The license agreement adds the terms that matter over time. The initial term is one month, or longer if agreed in writing. Agreements renew automatically. To cancel, give written notice at least 30 days before the next billing date. Initial setup fees are non-refundable. Agreed fees apply for the first year; after that, ProSites may change them with at least 30 days’ written notice.

Prices quoted for ProSites on other websites are not ProSites’ published prices, so we do not repeat them here. Ask for the setup fee, the monthly fee, the contract term and the total over the years you expect to keep the site, in writing.

When is ProSites the better choice?

  • You want a dental website built from proven layouts and pre-written content, without writing every page.
  • You want one vendor for the website, SEO, social media and business listings, on one ongoing plan.
  • Your team wants to make its own edits in a point-and-click editor, with a support line for help.
  • A monthly fee fits your budget better than a one-time project.
  • You are comfortable with the website living on ProSites’ platform for as long as you use it.

Those are good reasons. A template platform can be the sensible choice for a new practice or a simple site.

When is a custom dental website the better choice?

  • You want the finished website to belong to your practice.
  • Your practice should look like itself, not like a design from a library.
  • You have several doctors, many services, more than one location or a booking system that a standard layout does not fit well.
  • Your current site already brings patients from search, and the move needs a careful plan. See our dental redesign checklist.
  • You would rather pay once for the build and choose ongoing services separately.

A custom build asks more of you at the start: decisions, content and review. Choose it when those decisions matter to your patients.

What should you ask before you sign?

Ask every provider, including us:

  • Whose name is the domain registered in, and how is it released if we leave?
  • What exactly do we own: the design, the code, the written content, the photos?
  • What can we export, in what format, and could another developer run it?
  • What are the setup fee, the monthly fee, the contract term and the notice period?
  • Which changes are included, and which cost extra?
  • Where do appointment requests go, and who tests that they arrive?

Before you decide

A few good questions.

Does ProSites publish its prices?

Not on its pricing page when we checked on September 23, 2026. The page lists four plans without dollar amounts. ProSites’ FAQ says prices differ depending on the level of custom design and invites practices to call for a free quote.

Who owns a ProSites website?

ProSites’ end user license agreement says the website, including the graphical content and HTML coding ProSites provides, is the property of ProSites, and the customer has no rights to the website beyond the terms of its subscription. The client name and customer information are excluded. Ask ProSites in writing what you can take with you if you leave.

Can I keep my domain with ProSites?

ProSites’ FAQ says it can point your existing domain name to a new ProSites website, and that its monthly fee includes annual domain renewal. Its public pages do not say whose name the domain is registered in. Confirm that your practice is the registered owner.

Is a custom dental website always better than ProSites?

No. ProSites can fit a practice that wants ready-made layouts, pre-written dental content, its own editor and marketing in one ongoing plan. A custom website fits a practice that wants its own design, a one-time build price and ownership of the finished site.

How much does a custom dental website from WTM cost?

WTM Studio website redesigns typically cost $6,000 to $30,000 as a one-time project. See your design direction first, free. Then agree the scope and flat quote. No required retainer. You own everything we build.
